2017 Playbook Football 10 Questions Interviews

1. Which NFL teams do you see being 'Play On' worthy this season?
The New York Giants get the call as our Play ON worth team for the 2017 football season. During the offseason the Giants have been very active and one of the most notable acquisitions was that of Brandon Marshall. He alone is a force on the football field but the Giants also have Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard. On the defensive side of the ball they lost nose tackle Johnathan Hawkins but overall this is a solid Giants defensive unit. We like the Cowboys to win the division and go to the Super Bowl but this pick was for a play ON worthy team against the spread. In reviewing their schedule we see several games where the Giants will more than likely be installed as underdogs some of which come on the road and we know the Giants do a nice job of covering the spread in these types of contests. They have the Cowboys in Weeks 1 and 14 they face the Seahawks in Week 7 and the Chiefs in Week 11 they also travel to Oakland in Week 13. We like the Giants to cash tickets in the 2017 campaign and they get the call as our NFL Play ON worthy team for the upcoming NFL season.

2. Which NFL teams do you see being 'Play Against' worthy this season?
The Atlanta Falcons get the call as our Play Against worthy team this season. Unfortunately the Falcons are the Super Bowl losers from last season and that never seems to bode well for them the following year. A perfect example of that we go back one Super Bowl to Super Bowl 50 where the Carolina Panthers rolled into that game looking unbeatable and lost but as is the case in those situations most pundits said right after the game this Carolina Panthers team will be right back in the mix again next season. Well for those of us that do not look at the world through rose colored glasses we didn't feel like they would return and they didn't come close ending last season with a 6-10 record and never sniffed the postseason. Even if the Falcons prove us wrong on the straight up side they will be overpriced this season and that should give us several money-making opportunities. The ole Dirty Birds top our list of play against teams in 2017 when it comes to covering the number.

3. Which NFL teams do you see making it to the Super Bowl this season?
New England Patriots vs. Dallas Cowboys
Hard not to pick the Patriots with Belichick and Brady still performing at a high level they have proven they can plug almost anyone into any position and win. Dallas is loaded on the offensive side of the ball and if they can improve on the defensive side of the ball where their pass rush was nonexistent last season they should make a run this season.

4. Which College Football teams do you see being 'Play On' worthy this season?
For our play ON college football team we go to the Pacific Northwest and the Washington Huskies. The Huskies head coach Chris Petersen and his teams tend to cover the spread no matter where he coaches. Petersen's record against the spread at Boise State was solid at fifty-five percent overall. His ATS success followed him to Washington where they had a decent season ATS in 2016 posting a record of 22-19 ATS (53.6%). Petersen's teams have been a good bet when playing away from home posting a win percentage of 64.7 percent on the road while at Washington and 61.7 percent in his time at Boise State. Petersen led teams have been very profitable in road games winning in eight of the last nine years including his three at Washington. Even with the Washington Huskies making it into the NCAA Playoffs last season which can sometimes cause overpricing the following season we still like them against the spread this season. The fact of who they are in reference to the college football against the spread landscape along with their head coaches against the spread prowess make them a solid bet in 2017. The Washington Huskies get the call as our Play ON worthy team in 2017.

5. Which College Football  teams do you see being 'Play Against' worthy this season?
The Temple Owls will be starting a new quarterback for the first time in four years they will also be without their leading rusher from last season Jahad Thomas. They do return Ryquell Armstead to the backfield and he averaged more than five yards per carry so the backfield will not be empty of returnees but a new signal caller opens the door of doubt in regards to their offensive team. The Owls were the best against the spread team last season posting a record of 12-2 ATS. Temple's defense was third in the nation in total defense a year ago including eleventh in scoring defense. With only five starters returning to the defensive side of the ball we look for their defensive numbers to suffer. These are only a few reasons which make our call for the Play Against team in 2017 the Temple Owls.

6. Which College Football  teams do you see making it to the College Football Playoff Championship Game this season?
Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
Ohio State returns QB J.T. Barrett and RB Mike Weber which is huge advantage. They also return all four starting linemen on both sides of the ball from last season's 11-2 team. Alabama returns QB Jalen Hurts and great depth at tailback from an outstanding offensive unit. Alabama lost a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball and most believe they will suffer because of that, most teams would but do you remember the last time the pundits said Bama would take a step back, they won it all.

7. Which new head coach hire will prove to be the best in the NFL this season?
We are heading to the Mile High City for our new head coach that will prove to be the best new hire of the 2017 season. Denver hired Vance Joseph as their new head coach leading up to the new football season. Joseph was the defensive coordinator in Miami for the 2016 season he was in that position only one year. For the most part he has been a position coach under such head coaches as Gary Kubiak, Marvin Lewis and Adam Gase. Joseph comes into a winning situation with one of the best front offices and a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Those are two important elements of a successful franchise so look for Joseph to have a solid season leading the Denver Broncos.

8. Which new head coach hire will prove to be the best in College Football this season?
There was a major shakeup in the Big 12 coaching ranks during the offseason with Charlie Strong out as Texas Longhorns head coach and the sudden retirement of Bob Stoops at Oklahoma. The new coach at Texas Tom Herman gets the call as our best coach hire for the 2017 football season. Herman was only at Houston for two years and he compiled a 22-4 record. His records include that major upset of then #1 ranked Sooners in last season's opener. Former head coach Charlie Strong had a few nice recruiting seasons so they are not empty when it comes to talent so Herman having already proven he can step in and win should be able to do so with a decent Longhorns team.

9. Final closing thought on the 2017 NFL season.
As the season approaches it has a different feel than those recently I hope that means we are in for one of those years we will all remember as being a great season. We are coming off what could possibly be the worst defeat by a team in a Super Bowl with the Falcons melt down against the Patriots. Hopefully after having to witness that we are in store for something special this season.

10. Final closing thought on the 2017 College Football season.
The college football season is right around the corner it sure seems like the season just ended but that if fine by us. We had a few surprises last year even with Bama in the Final Game and they should be there again but that doesn't mean we won't have a few surprises along the way. Stoops gone from Oklahoma, USC looking like USC again, Herman and the Horns, Oregon and Taggart, The U and Richt ditto, an Apple in Houston, Buffs one off, Bluegrass Football for real, these are just a few questions to be answered in the 17 campaign. Can't wait...
