Those frustrated with baseball and/or those uncomfortable with straight-up-odds propositions will be rewarded for their patience later this week, as the colleges kick off meaningful gridiron activity September 2, with games avaiable daily through the Labor Day holiday. Of course, the schedule's spiced with such legitimate proving-ground matchups as Connecticut/Michigan, UCLA/Kansas State, Washington/BYU, North Carolina/LSU, and the Monday-night delight featuring Boise State visiting Virginia Tech.

Monday's stadium christening of the Jersey swamp's new home for the Giants and Jets brought home a choice lesson or two. The marketplace chased the Jets from near-pick to -3 or more, with the inside insiders secure in the knowledge that Rex Ryan was going to run his starters out there for virtually the entire first half -- a quarter longer than Tom Coughlin was going to risk his frontliners in this relatively meaningless game.
