Morak Oguntade is a pioneering Nigerian comic book illustrator and cartoonist with over 40 years of experience. Best known for his iconic work on the Ikebe Super comic series in the 1980s, Morak’s expressive style and sharp attention to detail helped define the charm of Ikebe Super, making it a staple of Nigerian pop culture. His career began when famed Nigerian media mogul, Wale Adenuga recruited him from Punch newspaper, where he was a staff cartoonist. Morak later expanded to working with Vanguard newspaper.
In 1990, Morak moved to the UK, where he further showcased his versatility by working on prominent titles such as Toxic!, 2000AD, Judge Dredd, and illustrating characters like Coffin and Batman. He also contributed to Marvel’s Conan covers, displaying a passion for kinetic storytelling and fine draughtsmanship.
Despite his international success, Morak returned to Nigeria and now runs an art studio in Lagos, where he creates across various mediums, including sculpture, painting, and animation. He continues to work on new projects, collaborating with Daily Times and Nenna Comic Magazine while also taking on private commissions.
