The act of creating, in itself, presents a sense of escape. As a young, indigenous Māori woman living in Aotearoa, I experience a sense of disconnect within my society. As a woman who lives with chronic depression and epilepsy, this disconnect deepens. I invite you to consider the notion of escapism. How do we as individuals purposely disconnect to find a sense of solace within the unfamiliar? Art initiates conversation. To create for one another, we need to understand one another.
