EL DESIGNS OUTLINE:I am developing my own line of ceramic dinnerware sets and home goods, blending modern inspired design with traditional ceramic craftsmanship. My goal is to create bold, functional pieces that speak to contemporary aesthetics while embracing the timeless appeal of ceramics. I plan to use a range of techniques, from plaster mold development for consistent, streamlined production, to wheel throwing for one-of-a-kind, artisanal pieces. With slip casting and hand-building techniques, I aim to produce a diverse collection of work that pushes the boundaries of ceramics. The $10,000 from the Inspiration Fund will be essential for purchasing the supplies needed for each stage of the process: plaster for creating custom molds, slip casting materials, clay for throwing, and chemicals to develop and mix unique, modern glazes. This will allow me to experiment with vibrant, experimental color palettes and textures. Additionally, I plan to incorporate modern technology like 3D printing and digital modeling to design innovative forms, creating ceramics that bridge the gap between traditional craft and digital innovation. This project aims to introduce a fresh, youthful perspective into the world of ceramics by combining the technical mastery of traditional techniques with the bold, expressive spirit of modern design. Artistically, I hope to inspire my generation to view ceramics as a dynamic, evolving medium, not just as a functional art but as a form of personal expression. Through this fusion of technology and craft, I want to challenge the perception of ceramics as being solely rooted in tradition and show how it can be a relevant and exciting medium for young artists. This project will help me grow as a designer and maker by allowing me to explore new tools, refine my techniques, and push myself creatively. The Inspiration Fund will enable me to experiment with modern glaze formulas, invest in cutting-edge tools, and learn new skills like digital modeling. It will also allow me to explore larger-scale production, helping me build the foundations of a forward-thinking ceramics business that appeals to today’s modern, tech-driven audience.
