This set of images is the conglomeration of the first two acts but are made on location. Actually, this is considered an assignment but I went to Germany at this time and had a great access to an amazing basement that I am free to take photos of while being naked. I just put myself in the most uncomfortable places, corners, and even shelves but I need to endure the cold air/weather during the fall-winter season and I also shot in Orange County and in San Francisco.UPDATE:In 2025, I am remaking this series and trying to look into a different perspective and create this series in color. I plan to continue this series to create a different creative voice, yet utilizing new techniques and photographic perspective.

I made a fine art street photography series that showcases something significant here in Ehrenfeld, Cologne. Bikes are very prominent everywhere in the city. I shoot the bikes in a straight clean perspective. I edit them consistently so the images will be cohesive. The Bikes

I am a free-spirited person who wants to see the enormousness ofthe Earth. The diversity of cultures, myriad civilizations, and thecombination of nature and man-made architectures and masterpiecesform the unique magnificence of every city. As a photographer,I often look at the world differently than most - focused on theintricacy of details - geometry, lighting, gradation, leading lines,and many more that overwhelm an overthinking mind. Of course,most of us see the world with colors, which is quite amazing. Butthese series eliminate this vital element and see just only in grayscale....In this ongoing “Travelscape” series, I capture landscapes and cityscapesthat highlight a subject (or subjects) as the focal point and relish thedetails around them. I may shoot interesting point-of-views to captivateits scale or showcase prominent photographic elements. With black andwhite, you can appreciate more those lines and details that overpowerby colors. The contrast provides a dramatic impact on the imagery whenwe are looking at its rawest. When I Can Only See Black and White

Throughout history, photography evolved significantly through diverse methodologies, applications, and intricacy. Its complexity of using eclectic chemicals, materials, and tedious procedures considered it more of a science than art. With the ingenuity of using alternative and various processes, inventions of more portable cameras, film, and solutions, expressing the synergy of technical and creativity through photos became possible and a vital part of our daily lives.Today, photography exists and is more accessible than ever before. Thanks to technology and innovation, it has become more convenient and easier to use. It has also become smaller, more powerful, and more versatile than we ever imagined.But what do we think will happen in the future? Will it overshadow the past and traditional practices, or will preserve its entities and roots?Photography will continue to develop for sure... But only time can tell.Visual Reverie is a conceptual series that conglomerates different photographic processes into one imagery. Using interesting lines and geometries as subjects will transport viewers into a split-image multiverse of photography. Emulating traditional and alternative processes using modern photo editing and manipulation to recognize their significance to the photographic history.With new media technology, implementing Augmented Reality (AR), showcasing animation that transcends the viewers to a visual state depicting these various processes uncovering the complexity of the single frame photograph on the wall.PROJECT: 2022-2023FOCUS: Experimental photography and New Media (AR technology)

Visual Reverie

The images are from my personal project series entitled "Inner Conversation". It showcases a subtle narrative about the busy commuters. I play with reflections that extort people's privacy and catch them in a moment when they are vulnerable. The effect of the reflections, the foreground, and the background blend harmoniously indicate the idea that they are in their own bubble of isolation and survive as they reach their destinations.I showcase this series in Passagen 2016 in Cologne, Germany at Alte Molkerei. I observed that one of the guests was staring at this exact image for a long time. I approached and I ask if there was any problem. She said no problem but this image intrigued her so she told me what she thought. She visualized that the subjects in the imagery may be connected in some ways. Maybe the colors of the clothes or the gestures but she felt something lonely about it. She called this piece "30 Years Married and 1 Day Divorced". Then I said, "That was a great interpretation and that is my intention for the audience. Can I use that as the title of this photo?", And she gladly affirmed.PROJECT: 2023FOCUS: Fine art Street Photography - Travel, Reflections, and People

Inner Conversion

This series vividly explores the interplay of light and form, capturing the elusive contours of the human body. It evokes the imagery of constellations shimmering in the vast expanse of a clear, night sky. 

For me, this project transcends mere artistic expression; it is a meticulous technical endeavor aimed at conjuring the envisioned images. Focusing on the rim lights to form complex shapes and pulling out the details with darkness to highlight the illuminated areas. The creativity woven into this work is intricately tied to the narrative, articulated through the formation of shapes and the subtleties of body language.

Chapter 4: ECLIPSE

A personal project highlighting the edgy and intricate details of Ehrenfeld, a multicultural neighborhood in Cologne, Germany. This exploration aims to capture the unique architecture, vivacious street art, and diverse cultural details that define this special quarter, revealing the flourish of life that thrives within Ehrenfeld's streets. Project: Ehrenfeld

This series is a photographic study of lines and geometry in repetitions or following patterns around San Francisco, California. It was shot with a Mamiya Sekor analog camera with 35 mm film but cropped in square format. I used traditional Darkroom techniques, developing, and printing processes myself. All prints are in original Silver Gelatin Prints and have unique impressions and qualities that you cannot precisely recreate.&nbsp;PROJECT: 2015 - 2016FOCUS: Fine Art Photography - pattern, geometry, and lines.

Lines and Repetition

Abstraction is something where you eliminate the norms to disorient your subject so I need to go closer to my focus. I try to cut those joints or where body parts start so I can tangle it with something not supposed to be, as long as, I can bend or flex those parts. It is a simple admiration, delicate aspiration and subtle storytelling to appreciate human anatomy.

Chapter 2: EQUIVOCAL

The concept came to me when we did fear assignment. I know I have a ton of fears to cover because I am a fearful person as I grew up. I think I used this opportunity to do my own therapy and convert this weakness into a strength. I can't stress enough that tackling sensitive issues like this into a creative outlet. It is unique and never thought before.I started with My Childhood Fears, it is a self-portrait series that shows my terrors that keep me awake and paranoid when I was a kid. I focused on myself as the main subject and work on my storytelling and photographic execution. I looked for cinematic approach with a distinct style of color and humor but it shifts more to a subtle and serious perspective.

1. My Childhood Fears

My first attempt to do a nude self-portrait. I confess that some of my colleagues shoot me naked as their subject for their projects. But doing it by yourself is quite strange. I photographed myself as an object and not to become subjective for myself so I represent myself as a sculpture instead. The elegant representation, let say, of the Greek gods and mythological creatures that emulate perfection. Meticulous details and the erratic poses that create a powerful impact.

My Submission Entry for the Playbook Competition 2025 - "Hidden in Plain Sight"A personal project highlighting an experimental approach through photography, film negatives, and creativity. I transmute modern technology and analog film to create distinctive imagery. I made a literal multiple exposure, but did multiple negative films layered together to create a unique frame and narrative.This competition has inspired me to revisit my long-lost idea centered around my collection of 35mm negative films. During my travels and visual explorations, I envisioned creating multiple images that tell a story within each frame. By combining different negatives, I aim to create new moments into entirely new frames and visual narratives. Using the unique qualities of traditional negatives—such as their graininess and imperfections—along with modern technology like Photoshop (laying all the layers together) and GIF Maker, Playbook built-in Mini App tools, I fuse these processes to present the photographs in a dynamic way, and I hope to showcase the artwork in an engaging and unique manner. In terms of visual storytelling, I focus on 1 or 2 frames, trying to stretch the narrative outside its boundaries to recreate a different visualization. I combined different negative frames that work together. That is, maybe, locations, subjects, structure, composition, or certain elements that can make sense or enhance when layering them together. I am a freelance photographer and creative consultant currently based in Cologne, Germany, from San Francisco, CA.I enjoy photographing portraits, editorials, and commercial projects that convey concepts or stories. In my free time, I immerse myself in creating personal projects to keep my creativity fresh. I am a freelance photographer and creative consultant currently based in Cologne, Germany from San Francisco, CA.I enjoy photographing portraits, editorials, and commercial projects that convey concepts or stories. Gerardo Santiago is a creative freelance photographer based in Cologne, Germany, who crafts conceptual photographic representations that convey ideas, narratives, and stories. His expertise spans commercial photography, including portraiture, editorial, still life, mixed media, new media (augmented reality), and multimedia, alongside his passion for creating personal fine art projects. His fine art series such as "Body Distorted", "Our Childhood Fears", "Inner Conversation", "The Bikes", and "Lines and Repetition" have been showcased in various exhibitions and group shows across the USA and Europe. The highlight of his creative photographic journey was the presentation of his series of Body Distorted, unveiled at his first solo exhibition in Gallery 688, San Francisco, CA, from March to May 2018. He was also honored as one of the recipients of the Top 100 Photography Award at Photokina 2018 in Cologne, Germany. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Geo’s love for photography began with a second-hand film camera he acquired in elementary school, allowing him to cherish memories through his lens. In 2009, the Santiago family migrated to Anaheim, California, USA. Geo joined the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic, serving four years with two back-to-back deployments aboard the USS Carl Vinson from 2011 to 2012. After fulfilling his military service, he courageously pursued his passion for photography, moving to San Francisco, California to attend the Academy of Art University, where he attained a Master of Fine Art in Photography. Currently, he is pursuing his professional journey in Cologne, Germany, working in the creative and media industries with small businesses, agencies, and entities across the USA and Europe. He is also active in mentorship and volunteering, by giving back to the community. In the future, he hopes to make more impactful imageries and creations, promote creativity, arts, and photography through his works and contributions, and lastly, inspire and teach individuals and the next generation the importance of imagination and creativeness of humanity.
