Artist statement
A native of Washington, D.C., X’avier Alexander is an American designer whose design ethos is rooted in the narrative. His background in painting has shaped his relationship to fashion. He perceives both painting and fashion as means of conveying nonverbal concepts and a versatile medium which affords the individual the ability to express themselves in a distinct manner. He is heavily influenced by the world around him, his cultural background, life experiences, conversations, and what he sees on a daily basis. He uses volume, shape, and graphic components as his fundamental design elements. He also incorporates more figurative ideologies such as metaphors, symbolism, and the multiplicity of meanings when developing collections. He considers his work to be wearable art pieces.
