Ariana Scheuer Photography — Observers
Observers is a photo series by Ariana Scheuer that takes a critical look at zoos and at how young children interact with animals through the glass. It was entered in Playbook's 2025 Photo Competition, “Hidden in Plain Sight.”
Artist statement
This project was intended to take a critical look at zoos, the benefit of creating a human to nonhuman interaction, while also visually critiquing the separation that it creates. How specifically smaller kids interact with the glass and the emotions that they will develop concerning animals in this experience of visiting zoos throughout their childhood. Inspired by The Glass Between Us, a project by Rebecca Norris Webb.
