Nia Umoja-Khalid is a mixed-media artist whose healing art, rooted in natural elements and Afrofuturism, includes sculpture made with preserved moss. This is Nia Umoja-Khalid's 2024 Playbook Imagination Fund application for Lady of Purpose, a series of collectible 3D-printed Nia Umoja sculptures.
Artist statement
PEACE & LOVE on PURPOSE! My past works are a reflection of my multidimensional creativity and constant growth...rooted in honoring natural elements of the earth and afro-futurism. My healing art is a mix-medium sculpture collection using preserved moss types. I created a piece that was inspired my grandfathers organization NIA UMOJA in the 1960's-1970's I redrew the mask art to have feminine features. I then created a digitized version of the art and I also created NFT's that were displayed in my self curated Virtual 3d NFT art gallery.
