Valerie Urrutia Imagination Fund Application — Surje Coffee
Valerie Urrutia co-founded Surje Coffee, a dairy-free specialty coffee business in El Cajon, California, that blends Mexican and Armenian cultural influences. This is Valerie Urrutia's 2024 Playbook Imagination Fund application for an art piece at the café, with brand identity work, ceramics and a mural design.
Project statement
Surje Coffee is a culture-driven, dairy-free coffee business that celebrates Mexican and Armenian roots through unique flavors and experiences. Our El Cajon space merges coffee, art, and community, promoting inclusion and creativity in every interaction. This grant will fund an art piece that symbolizes our vision—creating a vibrant, welcoming environment and connecting diverse communities. With it, we hope to deepen Surje’s impact as a cultural and communal hub in San Diego.
