Bass Guitarist Character Design

Bass Guitarist Character Design

Character design project for the bass guitarist of a band. I had a lot of fun with this project, playing with proportion, shape, and exaggeration, and how different shapes interacted with each other to create a distinctive character.

A lot of thought was put into researching and capturing common personality traits associated with bass guitarists: rigid and somewhat imposing, yet laid-back and chill. I then translated these qualities into the character’s design, using hair and clothing as the primary elements of the character’s overall silhouette. I also wanted the character to be somewhat unique and unconventional, with their look inspired by the “jellyfish” haircut and vintage clothing.

Shown here is the final rough character design and story poses done in Photoshop, as well as pencil sketches exploring different styles, silhouettes, hairstyles, clothing, facial features, and shapes. The final direction is a more stylized version of the initial sketch, located on the second page of roughs.

Academic project, Seneca Polytechnic. 2024.
