PILOT, 2019The foundation of Pylot’s mission to produce unanticipated, multidisciplinary exhibitions, our inaugural show in 2019 laid the groundwork for our future as a dynamic artistic organization.Hosted in Williamsburg Pylot (formerly known as Pilot) curated its first exhibition, showcasing the works of 20 early-career artists. The exhibition featured a mix of mediums, including painting, digital installations, sculpture, photography, video, and performance, reflecting our commitment to fostering diverse artistic expression throughout NYC.Our approach was to create an immersive experience, where visitors could fully engage with the art. Over the course of two days, the exhibition transformed from a traditional gallery space into a live stage for performances, including opera and dance, offering a unique, multidimensional experience. The exhibition garnered interest through an open call shared within our network, leading to a collaboration with ex-classmates, friends, colleagues, and passionate art enthusiasts. For four months, Pylot meticulously planned every aspect of the event—budgeting, financing, marketing, and liaising with artists and gallery staff—ensuring a seamless and impactful launch. This inaugural exhibition set a precedent, establishing Pylot’s narrative of growth, community, and artistic innovation.Name, Place, Animal, Thing, 2023In collaboration with theBlanc, Pylot produced this thought-provoking exhibition featuring 15 artists’ work inspired by the beloved childhood game. Drawing on the game's unique ability to turn language into symbols, the exhibition invited viewers to explore a rich tapestry of interpretations, each deeply personal and resonant.Through an array of mediums including paintings, sculptures, and digital installations, the featured artists brought the theme of Name, Place, Animal, Thing to life, offering fresh perspectives on this powerful concept. The gallery space was injected with a playful, yet nostalgic, atmosphere reminiscent of home. Children, alike art critics, enjoyed interacting with the artwork and watching their response to the exhibition made the production worthwhile. As done in the past, we gathered interest in the show through an open call. Our open call attracted a diverse pool of talent, and we carefully selected the artists whose work best captured the essence of the theme, creating a captivating and immersive experience.Unpopular Opinions, 2024In today’s digital age, media platforms have become the battlegrounds for public opinion, shaping and often distorting our views on culture, politics, and identity. Unpopular Opinions set out to explore these complex dynamics, offering a space for reflection and dialogue on how our everyday interactions online influence our perceptions in the real world. For the second consecutive year, Pylot collaborated with theBlanc space to curate this exhibition, featuring four artists: Ally Yanxiu Luo, Lingxue (Luna) Hao, Sherly Fan, and Rosie Kim. Through mediums including paintings, sculptures, and digital installations, these artists bravely explored their own unpopular opinions, challenging audiences to reconsider their perspectives. Our open call attracted significant interest, and we selected a smaller, focused group of artists. This approach allowed each artist to showcase a more extended body of work, offering visitors a deeper and more immersive experience. The exhibit was on view for a week, captivating audiences with its thought-provoking content.

“Form Versus Fiber” explores the dynamic relationship between fiber and form, focusing on how artists use both organic and inorganic materials to shape their work. Fiber, whether natural or synthetic, serves as more than just a structural element—it actively shapes the form and meaning of each piece. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how fiber, as a material, crosses boundaries between the organic and technological, the handcrafted and the industrial, influencing artistic outcomes in profound ways. Each work on display reflects how artists harness the unique properties of fiber—whether from natural sources like wool and plant fibers, or synthetic materials like nylon and carbon fiber—to shape new forms. These fibers, with their varying textures, strengths, and flexibility, guide the creation of intricate weaves, sculptures, and installations. The inherent qualities of fiber—whether it’s organic and pliable or engineered for precision—reveal how materiality defines the forms we see, creating a dialogue between nature and innovation, tradition and modernity.“Form Versus Fiber” encourages viewers to explore how the material choices artists make, from biological fibers to advanced technological textiles, contribute to the final shape and structure of their work. The exhibition highlights the evolving relationship between fiber and form, showing that materials not only shape the physical artwork but also the ideas behind it. By blurring the lines between organic and inorganic, this exhibition reveals how fiber, in all its forms, becomes a conduit for creativity.Programming and Public EngagementGallery Tour: "Form and Fiber: Curatorial Perspectives"<ul><li>Description: A guided tour led by the exhibition’s curator, offering deeper insights into the artistic processes behind the works on display.
