Forking Easy

An Adaptive Cutlery Holder

Task

The project consisted of two parts: first design an inclusive product predominantly made of plastic for the kitchen or bathroom, addressing issues of accessibility (group work), then further develop the product by applying sustainable design strategies (individual work).

Solution

Our team decided to address the needs of Arthritis patients by improving the design of existing pain-relieving cutlery. Our design is a stand-alone grip, making it universal and adaptable to ordinary cutlery so that users can comfortably use any utensils of their choice. To improve the sustainability aspect of the product, I focused on dematerialisation and reusability, reducing 83% in mass and allowing easy recycling. The final prototype is made by first 3D printing the form to create a mould, then casting silicone into the mould.
