A Collection of Street Lamps Made by Repurposing Building Materials of St. Andrew's Church
Task
For this collaborative project between Product Design Engineering and Architecture students, students were tasked to analyse the materials used in a building of their choice on Renfrew Street, Glasgow, then explore ways the materials could be repurposed for product design.
Solution
The focus of our group was the St. Andrew’s Church due to its religious and cultural significance. We utilized technology like LiDAR to assist analysis of the building. In the process we gained valuable insights on the sources and repurposing/recycling methods of the materials of this historical building. As a final step, I designed a street lamp that incorporates the sandstones and stained glass from the church, honouring its historical values and resonating with the idea of a church as a sanctuary, while also providing a functional object for public use.
