This collection is inspired by afro-futurism architecture. Afro-futurism is a movement in literature, music, art, etc. featuring futuristic or science fiction themes which incorporate elements of black history and culture. Afro-futurism architecture emerged as a unique intersection of African aesthetics and futuristic design elements. It offers an innovative perspective on how communities can leverage their culture; heritage to create futuristic designs that resonate with their identity.

The Future is Better

This project explores the idea of how there is a false sense of empowerment through the act of consuming luxury goods. This collection tells the story about our origins of royalty, being stripped away of that and having to turn to materialistic things for a sense of self worth, and the idea of what the future holds if we decide to invest our money properly.

Who You Be?

This collection draws inspiration from urban neighborhoods and the challenges posed by food deserts, crime, and lack of resources. This collection is about re-imagining what people of color would wear if they lived in an eco-city with access to healthier options, growing their own food, and eco-friendly transportation. This project is designed to liberate and re-imagine a better future for people of color.

A native of Washington, D.C., X’avier Alexander is an American designer whose design ethos is rooted in the narrative. His background in painting has shaped his relationship to fashion. He perceives both painting and fashion as means of conveying nonverbal concepts and a versatile medium which affords the individual the ability to express themselves in a distinct manner.

He is heavily influenced by the world around him, his cultural background, life experiences, conversations, and what he sees on a daily basis. He uses volume, shape, and graphic components as his fundamental design elements. He also incorporates more figurative ideologies such as metaphors, symbolism, and the multiplicity of meanings when developing collections. He considers his work to be wearable art pieces.
