About Black Girls Who Write

Tamika Faulkner /Black Girls Who Write - Imagination Fund Proposal

THE LBRY - Stock Site & Photography Agency under Black Girls Who WriteThe WHY:Black Girls Who Write will utilize the the Playbook Grant to address the current challenge: the scarcity of significant Black images for book covers and marketing graphics tailored to Black authors. This grant enables Black Girls Who Write to establish a stock site, resolving the issue within our community and creating a platform to collaborate with Black photographers. Our collaboration extends to partnering with another professional organization, Black Women Photographers, and other Black creatives to develop a stock site brimming with high-quality images for Black authors and graphic designers. This groundbreaking opportunity targets a community often overlooked—Black authors. Despite the abundance of stock sites, few are Black-owned or directly engage Black authors and photographers to:1. Provide high-quality and creative images of Black people 2. Enable Black photographers to earn residual revenue3. Offer affordable stock images to Black authors. We aim to onboard 15 photographers within 3 months of launch and aspire to collaborate with at least 100 photographers within the first year.Beyond supplying stock images, our initiative includes fostering partnerships between authors, Black graphic designers, and Black photographers through a city/state directory. This facilitates the creation of custom shoots for novels and marketing materials. This grant propels Black Girls Who Write towards establishing and scaling this business. It opens avenues to generate revenue with Black photographers, simultaneously serving an oft-forgotten community. The symbiotic relationship between Black authors and photographers is pivotal, elevating creative collaboration to new heights by visually enhancing Black literature through authentic Black art, rather than relying on artificial intelligence. What is The LBRY?The LBRY is an innovative stock photo site designed to bridge the gap between talented Black photographers and Black authors in need of high-quality, culturally resonant images.
