"By and By" Graphic Novel

WHAT: Graphic Novel Project: I plan to write and illustrate a graphic novel titled "The Misunderstanding of Walter Ayo: A 'By and By' Graphic Novel."Target audience: Children ages 8-12.Story summary: 11-year-old Walter Ayo is starting middle school and immediately finds himself struggling to fit in and navigate as someone on the spectrum. His counselor advises him to learn how to make friends, leading him into a group of uniquely gifted kids who teach him how to embrace who he is and to deal with the challenges of middle school before he decides to give up hope and change schools. Currently, the formatting of the book is conceptual, so I would definitely pick a more interesting font for the book project. Alternative Project: A published collection of "By and By" comic strips.WHY: As an Autistic person and a survivor of bullying, especially in middle school, I desire to encourage and uplift readers who are neurodivergent and who are from communities of color.HOW: Funding allocation: Printing costs for books, stickers, mailing and shipping expenses. I also would like to send as many copies of my book to local booksellers, schools, and public libraries for free while at the same time provide access to the books in conferences and conventions.

Step 2: Your Project Proposal

My comics and illustrations are meant to recapture innocence and deliver a sense of purity in creativity and artistic expression. My work is also about exploring a period of "coming of age" and childhood, or in my case boyhood, that once was and that in some ways still is as we strive in humanity never to lose our sense of childlike wonder. My art also captures life as someone who is neurodivergent.
