Ian Nogueira Pinhole Photography — Corpo Ilegível
Corpo Ilegível (Illegible Body) is a 2024 pinhole photography series by Ian Nogueira in which the body becomes shadow, a graphic mark on the border between the visible and the invisible. It was entered in Playbook's 2025 Photo Competition, “Hidden in Plain Sight.”

Artist statement
In photography, the image becomes a graphic element, delimiting a space of inclusion and exclusion. The shadow, as a counterpoint to light, materializes this exile. I, as a subject, exist beyond the captured image, yet presence is inscribed in the photograph as both form and absence, tracing my silhouette as a graphic mark on the border between the visible and the invisible. Thus, I transcend my visual representation; however, the captured image defines and limits me. Paradoxically, my presence manifests in the photograph as both form and absence, embedded in the very structure of the image. The body, as a graphic element, becomes the shadow, and the figurative image ceases to exist. Nevertheless, it still belongs to and impregnates the space as imagetic potential. The image as a final product will never repeat itself, yet as a graphic element, the body becomes multiple and continues to trace and imprint shadows in photography.
