The EndThe cohort has finally come to an end, and what an incredible experience it’s been. The final week turned into an intense sprint to the finish, but seeing my first draft completed made it all worthwhile. Writing a 30+ page comic without a script? Definitely not something I’d recommend—but it was an amazing way to push myself and challenge my storytelling skills. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to experiment in ways I wouldn’t have otherwise allowed myself. The last ten pages were especially challenging. I thought I had a firm grasp of the story and the characters, but after returning from the flashback, the narrative slipped out of my control. Originally, I planned for Melissa to ask Ramon to get back together. She was meant to embody the consequences of Ramon’s lies—a character stuck in time, unable to move forward, and demanding reconciliation. But as I developed her further, this felt like a disservice to her character. After some serious deliberation, I decided to give Melissa more agency in how she sought closure. I stripped away the dense dialogue I’d initially written and let the scenes breathe. Allowing the characters to simply exist in each other’s presence led to a much more impactful ending. There’s still a lot of work ahead before I can call this comic finished, but having the foundation in place is a huge milestone. I’m excited to see how everything comes together, and even more thrilled to continue exploring Ramon’s adventures through the Megahrtz.Until next time! Agustin

¡Revise Revise Revise! This week was all about storyboarding the bulk of the comic, while also going back and ironing out any details that seemed out of place. Writing a comic is like molding a ball of clay. With each passing phase, there are a series of edits that slowly help you mold the comic into what you want it to be. In the state that my comic is currently in, I am mostly looking for visual story clarity. Do the transitions work, are the people looking in the right direction, is there a clear sense of where the characters are, and most importantly is the emotion carrying through the page? The way I had originally written the beginning of the book, Ramon was not wrapping up his concert, but instead, he was already in his car throwing up from the previous night of celebration. It became obvious to me that I needed to add those extra two pages to make it clear who Ramon is, while adding context on why he was throwing up in his car. It also establishes that Ramon seems to have some skeletons in his closet, as he freezes up on stage after he thinks he recognizes someone in the crowd. It is unclear as to who she is and why he is freaking out, but it will all be revealed in the pages to come. The rest of the work was the proverbial crossing of the t's and dotting of the i's. I had to add characters in scenes to make sure the scenes felt full while also keeping us grounded as to where the characters were. The last bit was nailing the scene on the last 2 pages where Ramon and Melissa leave the party and drive up to a scenic spot on the side of a mountain overlooking the city. I wanted to properly capture the feeling of that quiet drive-upBut that is a wrap for week 1!

Week 2: Storyboard continued<ul><li>more pages, more fun!</li></ul>Goal: keep on chugging

Harder than it LooksWhen I started this comic, I wanted to make sure I had a clear idea of what Ramon's childhood looked like so I could properly capture his personality. After several revisions, I finally reached a point that fit the narrative I was looking for. All that writing led me to understand the character, but it also helped me realize that starting with his childhood might not be the most engaging approach. It was more important to begin with him as a young adult finally finding success with his music career, just as the skeletons in his closet started peeking out.Ironically, after all that writing, I decided to dive straight into this new chapter. Since Ramon's life draws from my own experiences, I thought the best approach would be to let the drawings and dialogue flow naturally through a stream of consciousness. I played "Devil in the Dovetail" by Double Virgo—a song that perfectly captured the mood I wanted for this first chapter. Riding the song's emotional wave, I completed about 10 pages, but the process left me mentally and emotionally drained. Channeling past memories while simultaneously inhabiting the characters' emotional states took its toll. While the initial pages were strong, my output gradually slowed as this intense workflow proved difficult to sustain over time.I could outline the rest of the story on paper since it's all mapped out in my mind, but I've already made such progress with the stream-of-consciousness approach that I figured I might as well finish the book this way. After all, what better time than now while I'm participating in the creative cohort? That's it for week 2!

What is MegaHrtz? The story of Pedro in Megahertz explores the idea that escaping your surroundings doesn't always mean escaping your inner struggles. Each chapter follows a different song that sets the tone for what will happen to Pedro on his journey. For this project, I will use Procreate on an iPad Pro for all the artistic workload, Notion for all of my script writing, and Spotify for all the music research. This book is inspired by my own life. Growing up quickly in a tough environment on the El Paso/Juarez border, I faced a lot of challenges while chasing my creative dreams. The area was full of partying and bad decisions, and anyone who tried to leave was often looked down on. Music and art kept me grounded and motivated. The story draws musical inspiration from bands like The Cure, Prefab Sprout, and The Cranberries, while the visuals are influenced by '80s and '90s music magazines.I want the book to be a source of inspiration for anyone pursuing any creative aspirations. I hope to show how perseverance can be the strongest weapon in the face of adversity.Writing a longer book has been a goal of mine for quite some time now. With the funds provided, I plan to make that dream a reality. Writing books is always a challenge, and working on something of this magnitude will transform me and my work by the time I reach the end.
