My new photo project explores the stories held within the hands of everyday people on the street. By capturing close-up shots of hands holding items like bags, cigarettes, or even just hanging loosely, I aim to portray the subtle nuances of human experience. These images, though focused on a single part of the body, reveal a broader narrative about identity, culture, and individuality.

This project is a reflection of how hands are tools of expression—whether it’s the grip of a worn handbag or the relaxed fingers of someone lost in thought. It will be shot using a mixture of natural street light and close-up techniques, with a primary focus on texture and composition. I’ll draw inspiration from candid street photography as well as the tactile details in portraiture. I’ll explore new methods of framing and timing to capture fleeting moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Artistically, I want this project to impact people by drawing their attention to the small gestures and interactions we often overlook. These hands belong to people of all walks of life, and they tell a collective story of urban life in a subtle yet profound way. Socially, I hope to bridge the gap between strangers and their stories, offering viewers a quiet, reflective experience that makes them consider the lives behind those hands.

As a designer and artist, I see this project as an opportunity to expand my understanding of human subjects and fine-tune my ability to capture emotional depth through minimalism. The Inspiration Fund could help me grow by allowing me to dive deeper into learning new photographic techniques and storytelling methods. It would give me the resources to experiment with different tools and mediums, perhaps adding mixed media elements or expanding the project across various cities.

This fund would allow me to elevate my craft, pushing boundaries to tell simple but compelling stories through an unconventional lens.

“Dreamscapes of the Unseen” is a journey into the ethereal mind of a dreamer, where pastel clouds, fantasy creatures, and vibrant details transcend reality. The artwork juxtaposes elements of nature, fantasy, and personal identity. With soft, curly hair resembling clouds and an eye framed by radiant, golden sunlight, the model represents the boundless spirit of creativity. The surreal ear ornamentation—a portal to another world adorned with cloud motifs and a horse symbol—embodies the connection between human imagination and the mystical realms that lie just beyond perception.

The vibrant colors and playful accessories ask the audience to embrace the magic in everyday life, hinting at the presence of wonder if only one dares to look closely. This piece encourages us to celebrate personal expression, individuality, and the boundless potential of imagination.

My journey with “Hands of the City: Stories in Focus” is headed toward a deeper exploration of the connections between people and their environment through the smallest details—capturing the essence of human life through close-up photographs of hands. The aim is to develop a visual narrative that not only highlights individuality but also speaks to the collective experience of urban living. To map out this vision, Playbook templates will be incredibly helpful in organizing and executing the project. Here’s how I plan to use them: • Moodboards: I will create moodboards that reflect the aesthetic tone of the project. These boards will feature the color palettes, lighting styles, and textural inspiration I want to explore. I’ll use reference images of hands, urban life, and close-up photography to solidify the project’s visual direction. Each board will evolve as I gather new shots, offering guidance throughout the creative process. • Project Timelines: The timelines will help me map out when and where I will be shooting in different parts of the city, allocating time for each phase from initial scouting to final edits. This will ensure I stay on schedule while incorporating room for spontaneous opportunities as I encounter people and moments on the streets. • Mocks and Prototypes: I’ll use Playbook’s tools to mock up sample compositions, testing different framings, angles, and storytelling methods. These prototypes will help me visualize how the final series of photographs will come together and guide my choices in post-production. • Detailed Plans: I will outline how the Imagination Fund will be utilized to enhance this project, from new equipment purchases (like a macro lens for extreme detail shots) to funding travel to other cities for a broader range of subjects. Each phase will have a clear action plan, from concept refinement to final exhibition or publication. By using these templates to structure my workflow, I can map out a clear path for taking this project from idea to reality, ensuring that each step is aligned with my creative vision. Playbook’s tools will allow me to bring clarity, consistency, and structure to the project while still leaving room for the creative flexibility that is so crucial to street photography.
