What have you made so far? What are your mediums and inspirations?I'm a designer and creative who loves to play across platforms and mediums. I've worked primarily as an art director and production designer (designing sets and wardrobe for photos and films. I recently designed sets and styled wardrobe for the Tribeca X Film Festival finalist Black Girls.I used to run a creative studio called Womblight Studio with a partner where I was responsible for all concepting, sourcing, and art directing photos and films. One of my favorite projects was one titled Yev For Prez, where we shot an imaginary campaign for a witch running for the Presidential office. We created campaign posters and then superimposed them onto the billboards and screens in Times Square and across New York City.Inspiration often comes from oddities for me. Juxtaposing "weird" and "aesthetic", building sets and spaces that feel dreamy and playful make me excited to create.\

LIVING ROOMLiving room is a whimsical, traveling photography set that aims to capture the beauty and vibrancy of families across socioeconomic backgrounds. The set will feature a formal sitting room- couch, table, side chairs, lamps, with flowers coming up from the floor of a traveling "living room". It is a mobile field of flowers containing a living room within it, a dimensional backdrop completes the scene when it is towed/ parked in an outdoor location. The set will be built on a trailer bed that is driven to different locations- to the woods, by the beach, industrial areas, schools, etc. The beauty exists itself within the set and is added to by the locations it travels to. This traveling set allows for more dimension- with backgrounds representing the spaces within a particular neighborhood. After scouting outdoor backdrops for the trailer to set up, I will put out calls for families to show up at predetermined time slots for their portraits. Families would later receive high quality art prints for themselves.I'll source furniture locally and build a base for the flowers with chicken wire, palm leaf cuttings, and have varying levels of filled pots with grown flowers and vases full of foliage at different heights. Vines will wrap around some of the furniture as well, creating a dreamscape that can be transported anywhere and will transport the lens as well.Though my viewpoint is rooted in whimsey I want to scout families and people who would not typically be the subject of this type of photography and showcase that beauty and creativity can be created anywhere and with anyone. And I'd love to start in my community in Richmond, California, a working class city with a love for its multicultural history and deeply proud residents.Photo sets like this are often costly, inaccessible, and are only an option for people in creative spaces with networks and budgets. In this next iteration of my work, I'd love to highlight everyday people and families who live full and beautiful lives but are not typically represented by this kind of photography. Sets like the ones I am proposing are always beautiful, but the subjects also impart their own brand of beauty into the images as well. Being photographed can be very awkward and subjects can sometimes feel nervous on set, but I have found that vulnerability is helped by being in an exciting, decorated space. The more dynamic, the better.Personally, I have never taken on a project of this scale on my own before. I'd love to push myself by photographing the families myself AND showcasing the beauty of community. As a designer and artist, I have gotten good at building controlled worlds. With a project like this, I'll have to adapt and push past controlling every element on set. Getting behind the camera more would help me grow and push me into a new realm of work - one that is admittedly scarier. With backing from a fund like this, I could build the kind of set I have always dreamed of (this is an idea I've had for years) and also hire assistance to execute to a very refined level. Luckily, I've had the great fortune of being introduced to this kind of work through my connections in New York City. I'd love to hire young, local creatives who are eager to learn about production and design to help build and produce this work.
