To complete the magazine, I use an array of tools. Most of my notes are written on my Remarkable E-ink tablet, on the notes or pages app. I take photos with my digital camera a Fujifilm X-T4 and use InDesign and Lightroom to edit the content into a magazine. InDesign and Lightroom are new to me so I will develop new skills in these areas mainly when it comes to the tech I use.I hope my magazine will have an educational impact on my neighborhood. I hope to secure the identity of my community and the community itself with a project that informs as much as it is accessible, that provides as much as it asks, and that stands by the morals of the people it serves.I want to grow beyond my technical skills into a person who has a strong ability to cultivate conversations that are hard to have and spaces to have them in. I want to become a person who uses his skills to aid those who need it in whichever way the community may need, and to develop a network of forward-thinking creative individuals where their skills too can be most helpful.

Hey All! My name is Justin Brown and I'm a writer and creative in East Harlem NY. I'm submitting a pitch for funding to create a neighborhood magazine I'm calling 'The Signature Reader'. I want to use my art to support my neighborhoods identity, uplift its voice and foster community and the space to have educated conversations amongst the people. With the right support and funding, I can secure contributors and volunteers for the magazine as well as the time to assemble the content and get started on the right foot.

Justin Brown - Imagination Fund Proposal

Nowadays, I want to combine my talents to give back to my community. I've been working on a community magazine that I intend to circulate in East Harlem, the neighborhood I grew ups in and currently reside. Complete with essays, news, photography, fiction, comics and games, the magazine will provide a voice to a neighborhood that has been historically disinvested while simultaneously preserving its identity and encouraging community and education.

My Project Proposal - The Signature Reader Magazine

Attached below are my works! (and me!)Most of my work revolves around writing.
