MY JOURNEYI started my creative journey at age 5, stuffed into local art classes by my parents exasperated by my overactive imagination. In middle school, I started my first art business unknowingly, doing commissions of classmate's Littlest Pet Shop toys during class time. I was also illustrating comic books I hand drew on our spiral notebooks, with stories I made up about my best friends and I.By high school, I was fully immersed in art. I shattered records for youngest student taking the most advanced art classes they could find, and I spent every lunch hour eating in the art office with my teachers. I spent after-school in art club working on my AP portfolio, and won different accolades nationally for my work. I was finally discovering the mediums that were true to me like colored pencil and watercolor, and I was churning out work to post on social media. I grew my following from 0 to 15,000 in a few years, even hosting competitions in the online community.College marked a turning point for me, as I decided to choose a STEM career path in promises of a stable future. I focused on struggling my way through coding and physics classes, neglecting to do the art that was once my whole life. My social media died, my creative spark was dimmed, and I forgot how much art meant to me. I felt like I wasn't a "real" artist, and that my work lacked meaning and emotion. I turned away from traditional art and tried to explore other new mediums like photography, clothing, stickers, 3D modeling, polymer clay, generative code art, and even ceramics. Now, I've grown to realize that the act of creating is a very beautiful and difficult thing. Art has no boundaries; anything can be art if you make it to be. I want to bring the fun creative spark back in my life, and uplift others to do the same. I really appreciate initiatives like the Imagination Fund as it gives emerging and aspiring creatives a chance to do something they've only dreamed of before, and help turn it into a reality.

READ ME

Hi! I'm Adel, and I've been a multidisciplinary artist my whole life, and have most recently been working as a software engineer. My work has ranged from traditional paintings and drawings (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/art_awu/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">@art_awu</a> ) to digital NFT collections, ceramics, handmade clay jewelry (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/madebyadel_/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">@madebyadel_</a>), comics (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/linebarf/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">@linebarf</a>), and even 3D models. My favorite mediums include watercolor, colored pencil, and ink!I commonly draw inspiration from my cultural background as a Chinese American as well as other traditional Japanese, Korean, and other Asian artworks/motifs. I love to do stylized realism portraiture, and incorporate nature, celestial, or mythological themes in my work. I've recently been experimenting more with abstract art, thinking about how to express myself fully through art, and how to establish myself as a more legitimate artist. My dream is to be able to impact the community and people through my art or other work, as well as organize events centered around spreading creative joy! Please enjoy looking through my past work, as well as my proposal. I'd love any feedback, and if you'd like to chat with me, you can reach me at <a href="mailto:dlw8320@gmail.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" data-link-auto="" target="_blank">dlw8320@gmail.com</a>.<a href="https://adelwu.github.io/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" data-link-auto="" target="_blank">https://adelwu.github.io/</a>
